Don’t California My Riverton

A message from Rusty Lance

You might not be interested in government, but our government is very interested in you…

Are you able to tell whether the firearm Rusty is holding in this photo is legal or not?

For those unfamiliar, the ATF recently attempted to reclassify pistols with attached braces as short-barreled rifles, placing them under strict regulation through the National Firearms Act.

Had this rule gone into effect, it would have criminalized thousands of law-abiding Americans overnight simply for owning a common firearm accessory. Fortunately, several federal courts blocked the ATF’s rule, citing violations of the Administrative Procedure Act and an overreach of authority. Though the Supreme Court has not ruled directly on pistol braces, these lower court decisions have effectively preserved the right to own and use them for now.

Why do I bring this up? Because the bigger issue is this: we see this kind of overreach at all levels of government, not just federal. Unelected officials are pushing policies with the force of law, often without public debate or accountability. That kind of power grab is a threat to freedom, whether it comes from Washington or right here in our own city halls.

As a small business owner, I’ve seen how damaging unchecked regulation can be. That’s why I’m running for Riverton City Council; to bring transparency, accountability, and common sense back into government. I will fight to make sure Utahns are heard, protected, and never blindsided by bureaucratic overreach.

We deserve leaders who stand up for the people, not against them.
